The Fools were orginaly the Rhythm A's and are from Ipswich, Massachusetts. They are considered a rock, pop, comedy act with a reputation for an outrageous live show. In 1979 they released the song "Psycho Chicken," a parody of the Talking Heads "Psycho Killer", and it became a regional hit. EMI signed them in 1980 and released "Physco Chicken" nationally. "It's a Night for Beautiful Girls" soon followed peaking at number 67 on the Billboard chart. They charted in 1981 at number 50 with "Running Scared" on the "Heavy Mental" album.
After the release of their first album "Sold Out" they went on tour with The Knack. They toured with Van Halen after their second studio album "Heavy Mental". They have opened for Cheap Trick, Jefferson Starship, Steppenwolf, Rick Derringer, The Ramones, The Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, Journey, Rush, Blondie, J. Geils, and others. The line up in The Fools have changed through the years, Joe Holady has played bass, John Muzzy and Leo Black have drummed for them and Steve Sadler has been on keyboards.
In 1989 Doug Foreman was in the cover act, Little Sister, and Stacey Pedrick was playing with Drive In. John Muzzy and Brad Delp of Boston formed the Beatles tribute act, Beatlejuice, and Joe Holaday joined them. Brad Delp died in 2007 and the band was renamed, Beatlejuice and Friends. Rich Bartlett played out in the late nineties with Ben Orr of The Cars. In 2010, Mike Girard released the book "Psycho Chicken & Other Foolish Tales", which is about the history of the band.
